Martyn, this sounds like the National Party Social Media Team have extended their brief.
It amazes me that more people don’t talk about this but here’s National Party insider Grant McLaughlin explaining how it works in the Herald https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11510969
By the sounds of that the current right wing trolling is just an extension of their original purpose.
The link is actually to an article about the flag debate but McLachlan accidentally spills the beans about how the Nats work these days:

he is not allowed to call people liars and he is prevented from using slogans like virtue signalling to denigrate anything and everything.
he nearly had apoplexy this morning as his supply of vitriol was cut off from the roots.

I forgot to mention that Mathew Hooton had a judgement agaisnt him for lying, defaming, libelling Stephen Joyce and the amount is not public but he did have to make a public apology!

the SST seems to have an assembly line of paid up whingers for the nationals party.
I have heard the crap she has supposedly penned all by herself every week on channel 31 since parliament began sitting this year.
one day its a popularity contest that would not be out of place in the womans weekly and the next week its a numbers game on legislation.

this sort of so called journalism is getting crummier as these manques get free reign to air their prejudice and bias.
