hey hey my my...
playing guitar is many things to many people.
a bit of fun .
a party piece.
a hit record.
the first real lead guitarist on record was Lonnie Johnson.
played with louis Armstrong on Jimmie Rodgers sessions
and other jazz stuff.
faded from the scene in the forties
discovered driving an elevator in Montreal.
when offered a tour and records he jumped at it.
cut to the chase
from the urgent subtle stomps of Charlie Patton and that gang the music took off.
it is no accident that Robert Johnson chose that name.
see above.
30's and 40's America anyone could buy a guitar for two dollars mail order and give it a crack.
many did crack it in that era of independent radio and recorded music.
the results were truly astounding in retrospect.
the folkways compilation is only a taster.
was never struck on all Bob Dylans choices for the Radio Theme hour but just reading the tracklist is a job in itself.
where did they all come from and how did they become accomplished because you only get slick when you doing it professionally.
no tv but church and school and the radio made singing a priority for fun and a chance at the big time.
Leadership in New Zealand...
sports psychology: blurp
motivational speakers: glooop
team camps admixed with the kita principle.
There is no leadership in New Zealand.
The PM has to deal with far too much and too many fleas trying to bite her.
I mean she should kick garna and hoksing in the balls but they haven't got any.
Industry. look at fonterra and laugh.
Things need to be done.
The country is sclerotic and run by mediocre fogeys, feeble preening popinjays and religious nutters who have tapped into the power of christianity to impose guilt on the populace and bring them to heel.
the growth of these leeches in the new zeland media is exponential at the moment and as soon as their bubble burst and they go back to being honest sinners again the better.
Everywhere you look there are minor and major breakdowns and no one will take responsibility.
They just want to go skiing or to some conference overseas.
They are overpaid and too much pelf.
The rates of remuneraion are over the top and based on financial executive salaries overseas.
The rise of these enormous salaries lies in the leveraged buyouts of the 1980's and the realisation by managers who actually did the work that the lawyers doing the deal made more in three months than they did over an entire career and the principals of firms like KKR made billions
I would not like to see New Zealand become an authoritarian autarchy but in truth it is one already.
albeit grim beneath the vibrant veneer
The whole machinery is hitched to an inane media tapping into solipsism, self centredness
and selfishness beyond belief that rests solely on disposable income and insatiable aquisitiveness.
