Hi Steve.
Reading todays rag and one of the local boosters giving you stick because they disagree with your m.o.
i.e. getting reports for viability of who knows what.
I dont have a car, a wife or own my own house and therefore the people round here think I am stupid.
I dont tell them I have a degree in economic and business history.
And Philosophy for icing.
I dont know everything nor do I claim to but I do know how to find things out and I do have my own opinions.
when you ask people what they want they will make the wildest demands for the most improbable occupations and professions.
you know, nuclear reactors, international airports, car assembly etc.
I was born here in the Wairarapa and I have seen many factories and products come and go.
textiles, shoes, plastics, freezing works, whiteware and other consumer durables.
all gone now and they are not coming back.
However I do have some ideas.
Not erecting some business or whatever that will have a huge rate of return in this financial year so everyone gets rich in five minutes but a plan to build on.
That plan involves the whole Wairarapa community more or less and the educational institutions.
Here it is.
Arrow FM has excellent facilities and could become a training institute pretty quickly.
UCOL needs to come to the party and start drama and music departments and then start developing studios and technicians here instead of importing them.
At the moment these things are here but scattered, in miniature and , mostly amateur.
When they are given full backing and allowed to grow then a full fledged entertainment and knowlege industry will flourish.
People that go away to learn and do these things will stay here and others will come and soon enough and there will be product.
