evolution and pseudo science...

OP ED in todays Dominion Post by Ben Walker claims that humans have evolved to get emotional about things they care about with the hidden premise that at present some humans are emotional about not going to work.
The fact of the matter is that we hae not evolved into work loving creatures but have been conditioned like pavlovs dog to desire work to prevent us from feeling our true thoughts and feelings.
Claiming that this emotion whatever that is is an evolutionary feature somehow encoded in our DNA is just a nonsense.
for many work is an addiction and fulfills other psychological needs as well as providing cash.
Using pseudo science to justify and opinion is really slack research and is on a par with the person who claimed they felt like an animal because they had their nose put out of joint by the treatment they received in a hospital during the current covid crisis.
In other words they were having difficulty accepting life on lifes terms.
Further Kristina Paterson from the Mothers Helpers organisation claimed that certain conditions were traumatising and contributing to perinatal depression and anxiety which are in one case a psychological condition and anxiety  which is perefectly natural.
Traumas in their correct usage are deep psychological wounds suffered in infancy and early childhood and not just some temporary setback to getting your own way.
The necessary and sufficient conditions for perinatal depression have their causes in the psychological life history and are generated in childhood and exposed by the event of giving birth.
These days scientific terms are bandied about as if the user really knows what they are talking about when in fact they dont.

too many people in New Zealand are claiming expertise in fields where they are not even remotely qualified and making claims that can never be justified on the cold light of day.
