Hot footed it down to the NW for the Sunday rags anticipating a good read.
Nah.
Last things first.
The Sunday supplement is now on newsprint and goodbye glossy.
Page 2 Up/Down column had a brief on newspaper subscriptions and how they were going up due to quality journalism.
hahahahahahahahahaha
first three pages were an unbridled right wing moaning swingeing whingefest.
nothing objective fair or balanced about any of it.
the political columnist Tracy Watkins finished her leader with a whinge about how government ministers were not talking any more and how facebook had taken over.
well she should know if she reads her own paper that any time a minister speaks then the reporter twists and distorts everything they say.
she claims it is the duty of ministers to speak and the job of the press to cut through the spin but when the press is spinning everything then why bother when there are other avenues.
If the reporters were any good they would go there for info instead of wating for spoonfed morsels from the cabinet to be dropped in their laps so they can pick it to pieces.
pages 2 & 3 were full of irrelevant spectres from the past trying to put their particular oars in the spokes and gum up the works.
nah.
that dont wash any more.
putting up ex ministers from the nationals party and right wing commentators from very suspect think tanks isn't going to cut it any longer.
using the current crisis to put forward their views is unconscionable and egregious to say the least.
on another tack page 4 was an expose of a nationals party mp brother who was castigating the government last week in full page front page of the Dompost about not being any good being held to account for his trying to hide the facts about his schools drug usage.
Auckland Grammar Headmaster Tin O'connor was only too willing to promote untruths and lies about the government but when it came to his own backyard being devious and unscrupulous with the truth.
so thats the state of play in New Zealand at the moment.
The government has been rocked with serial catastrophes and is coping with aplomb with a pack of backbiting nasties using their positions to try and drag them down at every turn.
well karma is coming for some of them.
