 I dont think Eric "Winkle" Brown was on Guadacanal but he certainly liked F4f Wildcats and RN Hornets. He said the nicest to fly was the F86 E with all flying controls.

He liked the deHavilland Hornets. Called them Mosquito 'hotrods' and overpowered but fun to fly.

Not sure of the pic of the E model F86 but they are ready for combat.
