So he went on home to Terrytown

with his scars and his frown

just a kid or so you thought

but you never knew the battles he fought

stayed drunk for forty years

kept a tight rein on his fears

missed out on a lot over the years

still, he's damn glad to still be here

just a kid , guy, old man

still drinks beer straight from the can

still coming down from Viet Nam .
