I can say that I cant recall ever seeing anything with Phillip Seymour-Hoffman in it but I have read all the obits and the panegyrics with interest.
Especially the ones by ex addicts Russell Brand and Seth Mnookin.
I dont really go to the movies any more.
My interest was more in the death of Don Everly and the cats from my own era.
Brand is correct when he says that addiciton has been criminalised when it is a pyshcological and therefore medical problem. And he is alos correct when he says the auhtorities are blockheaded and obstructive and do nothings when it comes to approcahing the subject. As if they were doing it on purpose. Well they are. They love to see people fail and thats it. Furthermore addicts are kept off the stree, out of contention for the prizes and liable to rough justice. Triple strike dood!
And Seth Mnookin is right about the ineffecrtiveness of AA and the dubious nature of many rehab centres.
They only in it for the money and its time for AA to inspect itself and take cognisance of the fact that God is not going to cure everything and anything. Studies have been done in the US about AA and concluded that those who do best their are usually salesmen! i.e. bigmouths.
But Mnookin is wrong when he says that there is no understaning of what causes addiction in the first place. The cuase will always be overdetermined but and listen carefully, the primary goal of every addiction is to prevent the addict feeling their true thoughts and feelings.
Feelings never lie!
So until the whole rehab industry grasps this fact and stops relying on salesmen who have worked their way up the ranks so to speak from AA into a well paying job as experts in some facility then they may as well be pissing in the wind.
And on the same day that Mnookins item was published three pages in was another item about the alleged supplier of Seymour-Hoffmans smack. Looks like he is for the high jump.
He is going to be punished for the outrage which is cruel and fucking usual punishment to appease the sensibilities of all the media weepers who jumped on Seymour-Hoffmans back to get THEIR pictures in the paper.
