The Wairarapa is going to keep on trucking whatever happens and its the locals that keep the businesses going.

Contrary to what I said in a previous item I do have a plan to establish business in the Wairarapa but the didley squats know that if it was to happen they they would be left behind.
thats right kiddies.
So what do you really want?
A whole lot of vibrators sucking the 0dd 20grand out of the council every now and then to promote themselves or real investment.

I got over my initial foreboding to keep reading his tome on the English language "Accidence Will Happen."
Its a bit of a shock to realise that while I agree with his main premise that language suits itself but yet he still commits egregious errors about logic and thought.
Kamm is still in thrall to Pinker, Chumpsky et al without really considering what they are saying.
For instance he calls interrogatives a construction.
sure it might be pedantry to insist that they be not considered proper English but the the truth is they are dishonest, disrepectful, invalid and to top it off banal.
If Kamm cant see that then he needs to go back to school.
Furthermore it is not possible to have thought without language.
Ideas can only be expressed in words otherwise they are just mental events.
Thought implies the thinker has the ability to contrast and compare and this can only be done with words.
Apes can use tools but they cannot show others how to do it.
they can be taught to use sign language but they can not transmit it to their brothers.
And language is not innate.
It is a curious accident.
Just as lungs originally developed as flotation devices way back in the dawn of evolution so did voice come about when homo became erect and the hyoid bone rearranged itself into a position that also allowed it to be the determining feature in the physiological acquistion of the ability to speak.
all the rest is just nonsense, speculation and devious obscurantism and should be treated as such.
