all hell broke loose...

just finished reading this magnificent telling of the world at war  1939-45.
There are two lessons here.
Dont bite off more than you can chew and the stupidity of individuals was over ridden by sheer numbers and better materiel.
the more one reads about ww11 the more one realises that stupidity vanity deceitfullness were the some of the main ingredients in  the stew.
At the end the Americans were contemptuous of Monty and his boorishness and the British were disgusted at the behaviour of one Bonner Fellers. Roosevelt and Churchil were not immune to colossal blunders either but in the end the united nations beat the axis but for a terrible price.
I like the story of the Captain of the USS Franklin who court martialled seven officers after they abandoned ship when it was hit with a kamikaze attack.
He said that the guys who looked liked officers were the biggest girls blouses while the 135lb firecrackers were the guys that got the job done and saved the ship.
so there ya go.
