pink floyd and person of interest

Had to do some juggling last night.
person of interest on one channel and pink floyd doco on the other.
at least the floyd finished quarter of hour later so I got the best of both with a bit of hopping and the finale.
Poor old Sid. Too much lsd25 did his brains in but the also suffered from the same syndrome as Brian Jones.
He thought being a Rockstar meant you got special entitlements but thats not the way the world works and he paid.
bummer.
Anyway I never listened to the Floyd much after UmmaGumma but I got the old Ibanez six string out and managed to get the chords and the figures under the fingers.
loads of fun and not all that difficult.
Roger was alefty but he could easiloy have turned into a lentil burner, hare krishna type.
hahahahahahahahaha.
it happened a lot in the sixties.
all of a sudden they had a lot of money and began to look around for something else to distinguish themselves. harry kirshner yuk.
gee I'm getting a bit sour here. tough titty.

demons and wizards

found "Bloodworth" at the vidshop yesterday. They had a lot of copies to get rid of. Very gritty and close to the bone. Totally worth the price of admission for a view into another world where things are done differently. It all may look superificially the same but some people operate on entirely different set of principles and ethos.
Cat Ballou. Made in 1965 and that explains it!
they cant make funny pictures any more.
they either pander to the kiddies with mindless blockbusters or dredge up the past to pander to themselves.
see the artist. i.e. bulshit artist. hehehehehehehehe. blahhhhhhh.
STONEDALCHEMY. had to google it because amazon didnt have it but I got a copy the other day cheap at the redshed. $1.67? They were chucking it out. Ultracool 50's rythtym and blues. You know.  They got rythym and they got the blues. Not some bottle fed wimps whining to some stolen backing track and pretending its really r&b because thats what they say it is, but the real thing. Until you have heard these guys you haven't heard anything. there are no posers here. just dudes getting it down and you know they play bars and joints and dont swank around at plastic nightspots selling coke to geeks.
Dassault Rafale. Have become aware of the controversy of the Indian buy. They preferred the basic model to the Eurofighter. Too complex and not the model for the job. hmmmmmm.
Uriah Heep. Not very subtle piledriving rock band from the sixities but they had some very good tunes.
Stealin and Gypsy queen to name two.
and dont forget reality folks...

that was only yesterday

And its all just a dream babe.
a vacuum a scheme babe.
that sucks you into feeling.
like this!

Hi Tech, Heavy Metal, Fame and World Domination (hehehehehe)

Olympus LS-20M

Hi Kiddies. wanna be famous a star of the screen. Well fork out for the Olympus LS-20M. its got it all. HD, USB and audio better than cd. You can make home movies and shoot your own concerts and just about do anything.
The Rise of Scotland Yard. Just finished reading it and the conclusion is simply that after the demographic spurt of 1752 the growth in population meant more social control was needed. almost exponential. As the congeries of invention, new agricultural techniques, and the discovery of energy rich foods from the new world impacted,  then population was on a so far unstoppable rise and keeping order and combating crime was faced with necessary changes too and what is more they are still occurring. A very good read for anybody interested in the sociology of growth and urban development.
Might plug in the old Jackson tonight. Its only a standard but it feels as if it is alive even when you just hold it with no power. Tap it anywhere and it hums and throbs?????
yesssssssssssssss.
Just about got Ragtime Annie down. Have to prove to myself that I can still remember significant amounts of data. Plus its a groovy little tune. My version will never make the national flat picking champs but its funky and full of bite. I suppose I don't do it the way the books say but I sight read the TAB with the metronome on 81 and soon it will just flow without recourse to looking at the book.
Grant Smithies still doesn't get it. He reviews LA WOMAN as a classic and then sort of damms it with faint praise. I mean its either good or a heap of shit. Which is it. and its no good lumping Jim in with a whole host of other rock artists who bit the dust. He did his thing and that was that. Style parameters just don't fit round someone like him.
Anyway. I'm Terribly conflicted. everything I like is made by the worst kind of terrestial exploitation and environmental degradation but the toys seem to have import??????
Barrack Obama. Hi boss.  My apologies for invoking George W but he gazetted the marine reserves and its up to him to make sure that the full force of the law is brought to bear to protect them.
Otherwise his legacy ain't worth zilch.
and had to laugh but the kids library here has abrand new copy of Yellow Submarine.
The book. COOOOOOL.
And more fallout from wikileaks and stratfor. The dompost writer asks why if we dont count for much did the US take such a strong lin eover the nuclear ships issue. The answer is quite simple but is now receeding into history. Some on the left saw an opportunity to humiliate the United States and tapped into that part of the national psyche that loves to think we are biger than we are.
The US quite rightly  saw it for wha tit was and took action of their own for which they were perfectly justified at the time and now.
the trotskyites had their little triumph but in the end it was a pyhrric victory that didnt amount to a hill of beans.
dig?

PS. I cant believe that my blog has only earned $6.73 and that was over a year ago and has never changed?

sunday morning coming down: calling George W. Bush and lucy lawless

Hi George.
Here in New Zealand we dont really get much US news proper. We get the elections because it is sort of semi celebrity journalism and the rednecks are full on this time around because of you know what but I heard a snippet yesterday of much import.
An American Samoan on the wireless was talking about the marine reserves that you created by executive order during your presidency but which dont seem to have much legal protection.
Can you use your influence to give these reserves better legal status and prevent the complete elinination of fish stocks on the Pacific Ocean.
It would be a good thing to do.
And talking about things American, the shadow CIA think tank Stratfor opines that we here in lil ole noo zillun are like sort of hayseeds dude.
We dount count for much except in our own estimation.
Hey we got sheep.
Watch out Stratfor. we got millyuns of wingnuts riding round on hardly davisons (in the weekends) and plastic replica hotrods and they all watch the sons of anarkee on wednesday nights and they think the constitooshun gives them permission to make as much noise as they like because they sew old glory on their motorbikkee jackets.
what do ya think about that then?
Sunday magazine has another article on artifical fertility today. they cant leave it alone. You know its about engaging the whole of science so that some sheila can live her dreme and create another meeeeeeeeeeeee!
plus you get to be on a first name basis with a whole of people that are so much more intelligent than you are.
frigging pathetic.
think of how much better all that money could be spent of providing health services for kids already alive instead of erecting monuments to bad genes.
and.
a good item on censorship.
"You Cant Read This Book"
Nick Cohen
Its very easy to be brave when you are not being specific but the whole world is being run by the net where mobs or individuals are egged on to kill and butcher by people who enjoy fomenting disorder and creating havoc in other peoples lives by remote control and no responsibility.
we know that politicians and demagogues and tyrants are basically pieces of shit but some of them have long reaches and dont care.
Never saw Xena warrior princess so I cant comment on that but top marks to Lucy Lawless for giving shell the finger.
al the oil companies are complacent profit hogging entities who dont care ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT THE BOTTOM LINE.
Lucy get on the phone to George Bush and see if he might help you.

tubescreamers and stuff

Hi Kiddies. Weather bomb today. raining cats and dogs. time to take my boat shoes (pakistan army issue) out for a good soaking and moulding to fit my feet.
Scored a copy of Guitar Player at the Masterton Family shop yesterday. First one I have read for ages.
Everything is small now and electronic and e- based.
Fretlight guitars say they can tab every song in the world and show the tab on screen and on the fretboard. Wow!
But you cant beat the old Ibanez TS-9 tubescreamer. they make the synapses twangle everytime.
The Boss and the Olympus are new extremely lightweight mini recorders that you can plug in and manipulate after recording anything!
Way cool.
And so it goes.
You can make it if you try.
Have to go to the supermarket and get some white glue.
The Carterton Double Dollar shop in town has just about everything else but no PVA.
Drat.
My guitar case seems to be in a permanent state of deconstruction and repair.
It never stops!!!!!!
Squirt Squirt with the special applicator!
Hope you like the piccys of the gas guzzlers.
They dont make em like that anymore and just as well.
Plenty of menace but all over now.

Take me for a ride in your airplane

Nostalgia Trip

try this one

Roky

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Hot Stuff
Nostalgia trip today.
Went to town and played. Made enough for Coffee and chicken roll and bus fare home and had a good time.
After two hours my arm is only getting warmed up.
I can tell when I'm starting to swing!
Now it will hurt for a week but too bad.
Come on baby let the good times roll.
They say you cant go home but I did.
Had to look after my Mother before she died and never managed to leave the joint.
Met my sister for lunch and then we did a little parade up town with the grandchild and tipped the hat.
Cracked it for a chat with a lady who grew up in our street.
I knew I knew her.
It was all quite charming really.
Doctor Robert came past and grokked on Old 55. great tom waits song by the Eagles.
There was a choice blonde babe on the bus.
all the boys at the back went into paroxysms.
she smiled at me and made my day.
Great episode of the Sampler on Radio New Zealand this week.
Nick Bollinger talked to Roky Erickson on the phone.
Roky did toooo much stuff back in the sixties but he's all right now but still off the wall.
You gotta have that or the life ain't worth living.
and we all think like you!
Here is a little tidbit from Douglas G Browne.
By 1914 the annual issue of licences for public carriages was still under 20,000 and if the great majority were mechanically propelled the nerves of the populace were protected by police action, some 10,000 buses, vans, and cabs being reported every year as unduly noisy.
I wish somebody would report the noo noo head driving up and down Queen Street in Masterton on Wednesday.
up and frigging down for the whole lunch hour.
ring da ling ding!!!!!!

one more thing:
the price of fish is treated as a cheap commodity and then when it is all gone then what?

now for something completely different...
