I looked at a site this am which contained the cpation, "is the United States The Most Surveilled Nation on Earth"?
The answer is probably yes but the corollary is so what.
Every society on earth has its fair share of dissidents and criminals who bear watching.
Last night I was reading Bertrand Russells In Praise of Idleness where he does a nifty little piece of analysis on the roots of fascism.
The broad view looking down is primarily jealousy that expressed itself in in some of the nastiest people that ever existed.
Looking at Attila or Alexander and their conquests it was all a big adventure but by the 17th century and the advent of science and then later industrialism the laggers had to find excuses for their lack and inabilities which gradually came to be rooted in race and religion.
Two very spurious notions about the mainsprings of human activity and ideas and very utilised to galvanise hatred and opprobrium.
Unfortunately these corrupt nostrums still work in unifying nations and dictating their wishes.
So in this age we have two conflicting viewpoints.
Hatred of the succesful and the desire to have what they produced.
two irreconcilable categories and very dangerous for the resto f the world who just want to get on with it without the threat of globalpolitic disrupting and ending their existence because some hothead wants to be the big man.
