ragtime annie...

The Greenbriar Boys

Two really good discoveries in the last two weeks.
Back in the day when this music was made it was not readily availlable in New Zealand unless you ordered it and waited three months.
I think you even had to go to the bank and order the overseas funds too!
Now you get it with a flick of the mouse and it can be here in a couple of days.
anyway I got this  Flatt and Scruggs cd from the bargain basement cd rack at the WAREHOUSE and it had a nifty version of Farewell Blues  which is transcribed in the same key in Happy Traums exceptional book on country flatpicking.!!!!!
It is in the section on crosspicking and I tried to work it up but hey its a real pick twister and you really need a friend on another instrument to express it properly.
Happys' book also has a transcription of Ragtime Annie which is one of those bluegrass festival 'competition" songs but pretty groovy nonetheless.
Blow me down if I wasn't looking for something on a Vanguard Records compilation and there it was.
A whole tone higher in the key of D.
It would take a hell of a lot of effort to bring it up to speed but it is a lot of fun just getting it down.
There ya go.
fun for oldies.
