THE RAVEN

The hero Steve Marriot is piloting a RF 101 over a Nth Vietnamese airfield under attack by Thuds and Phantoms. 

Usually the recon Voodoos are not armed but he has guns and he catches a Mig 17 and shoots it down.

Turns out to be a russian pilot  on loan who has a high up brother.

In his next mission his radio is jammed first with the song "Voodoo Child" and then a message that they are going to get him.

His CO wants to send him back to the world but Steve wants to stay so he transfers to the Ravens in Laos.

Their mission is FAC flying light planes for the secret airforce banging away at a thrust to capture a mountain that houses  a navigation beacon.

Soon he starts getting his radio jammed again with Voodoo Child and he knows that they are still after him.

One night he is at the airfield and he observes a spy placing a homing beacon in his aeroplane.

Next day he heads south and further away from the action but still he is chased by a Mig but he goes down low in his Bird Dog and a squadron of Phantoms chases the Mig but cant get him.

Steve falls in love with a Laotian girl and as the war draws to a close they prepare to leave and not before and attack is made on the airfield just to get revenge on him.

Back in the US he marries his lady and she gets a job with a firm that turns out to be a front for the Russian who kidnaps her and uses her as bait to get Steve.

Steve uses his contacts to find out where they have her but the Russian flees with the girl.

They chase him and force him down and rescue the girl but he escapes and flees again but by this time the USAF is on the case and they blow him out of the sky.
