I am slowly working my way through "Europe Divided-1556-1598" by JH Elliott.
If nothing else a primer on vain stupid people. Perhaps I am being harsh but only Poland seems to have come out of it with any honour. they realised early that only toleration would release them from interminable internecine strife such as the sort that plagued the Netherlands and France. It is easy to see why now France maintains such a strict division between church and state. In the modern era religion has become not so much a contest of faith as an arena for angry people to release their personal blood lust under the aegis of religion.
Blaming others is self centredness and indicates an inability to consider the now and the here and instead projecting all problems onto the other.
Its pretty pathetic really and indicative of a total unwillingness of some states to provide a comprehensive education.
things not looking good in Libya as the sale of arms from the now defunct armed forces arsenal gathers strength.
More misery and bloodshed for tinpot warlords to inflict harm on helpless and innocent people so they can satiate their blood lust with armaments that they cant fashion for themselves.
Nice little article on manners in the Dompost this morning but it seems like the horse has bolted.
Thatcherism and yuppie acquisitiveness put paid to any considerations of other people in a drive to get money. In some respects thatcher was right. There is no society. there is only the individual grubbing away to obtain stuff that lifts him above the others.
Mindless consumerism and raping the world just to provide tokens of superiority.
Well the bill is going to have to be paid in full one of these days.
