I found a copy of the Searchers in the Masterton Resource Centre yesterday. Special deluxe edition with a second disc containg interviews and other tidbits.
I went looking for pics on google and found a few one of which came from the Guardian so clicked on and got the review by one of their critics who panned it as over rated and a mish mash of nonsense.
ho hum
His critique had nothing to do with the Interviews with martin scorsese and john milius whatsoever.
These giants of American cinema and american culture in general got right down to the real nitty gritty and teased out the themes and the acting and the cinematography in a way that a crummy critic from a small town newspaper could never hope to emulate. His review was grinchy and mean spirited.
In no way did it tally with what was up their on the silver screen and seems to be typical of small minded left wing provincial pongos. hahahahaha ( kiwi slang for pom)
If that is the best the Guardian can do then so be it but you want people to like your rag and suppport it but they have to cut their ad-blocker off first and then you hit them with smallminded anti-ameican pap then you can stick it.
nada. puerile anti-ameicanism just does not cut it in my book.
john ford was a master movie maker and the guardian should find reviewers that know what they are talking about.
