she wuz mine...
found a cassette copy of Woman Across The River yesterday.
The thing is that every other time I have come a cross a used vinyl version it has been played into extinction.
I now know why.
The English critics didn't take too much to Freddie Kings later work.
They wanted him to keep producing variations on the 12 bar so they could sit round and work them out but his SHELTER stuff was of another order altogether.
Soul arrangements but Freddies playing was just as good if not better than his sides for KING records.
Pifffffff. It was all magnificent.
There is a parallel here with Billy T James. Both were exceptional talents who worked themselves to death.
How sad.
As Jack Bruce said of Jimi Hendrix,"nobody really cared about him" as long as they could bask in his fame then next please.
Anyway Freddie was the best and I love you like a brother.
Another sort of eulogy in the Rag this morning for Phil Everly. going on about how the Everly Brothers influenced Simon And Garfunkel and the Beatles.
Well as Frank Zappa said shuddup and play yer guitar.
The Everly Brothers were sui generis and though they might have faded off the charts their legacy will live forever.
Such a body of work is never to be repeated and if you want to find the gold then you have to listen to the music.
Not listen to the critics!
dig?
A friend turned up last year and told me of Johnny Cash and Far side Banks of Jordan and blow me down when I went to town the day after he left I found a Johnny Cash cd heavily discounted at the Warehouse with that song on it and other gems.
viz The Fourth Man. Dialled the lyrics and hey presto it was a staple of the Statler Brothers live show who also got a break from Johnny when he invited them onto his travelling shows.
Cool huh.
Great song and phenomenal Backing Vocals.
They don't make em like that any more.
Just like the Backing Vocalists for Prince Tui Teka. They were cool, natural unaffected with cool dresses and man could they sing.
They don't seem to be able to make them like that any more either?????????
Why?
anyway the chap next to me is from England.
Every English person I talk to these days says that England is not England anymore.
The place is on the wonk it seems.
The old age pensions are tanking because the money is needed to pay for immigrants who cant find work and who use the common market to access the free health system.
Why isn't the common market demanding free health systems from its members instead of defense spending and payroll padding for rampant consumerism?
who knows.
The bureaucracy in England seems to be run by second rate trotskyites who have never read any history in their lives.
Ditto in the
New Scientist.
All these eggheads writing theses about history who have never ready any.
What has happened to the peer reviewers of these articles that are just post modern conjectures with no backbones.
which reminds me.
Boss.
Barack Obama
You should have asked Prime Minister Key when he was in Hawaii why I cant get a job when I have a degree and experience.
