Here is a message from the other who has been studying American politics and culture since the 1950's.
I guess you found out that it aint easy?
I did not hear your last state of the union address but the press here reported it as a plea for less divisiveness in the future body politic.
That is not going to happen.
The right have become meaner and nastier and have more and faster tools with which to whip up the mob even as the mob becomes less capable  but more angry.
(Here in lil ole Noo Zillun they have become slimier and greasier and nasty than any previous society would have accepted or permitted. )
Less capable because they have traded dialogue for fast food and impotent because  nobody really wants to listen to their vicious  tirades and vitriol except the resentful great unwashed  and the 20% who are agin' everything.
and more importantly they have no idea about what the real history of the United States is and what makes America great.
They think it is having a gun and a pickup truck and voting for a rich buffoon but real people know that it is much more than that and that the future is going to throw up problems that will have to be faced with a measure of thought rather than kneejerk.
