Went to Featherston over the interhols.
They are doing their best to make it a real book town.
It seems to be working.
There is a great variety including a military history shop.
I bought a copy of "They Studied Man" for not much.
I have had about 6 copies of this wonderful book that has been a real inspiration to me and I hope to countless others who have the door to anthropology opened to them.
One odd note is the slight disparagement of Ralph Linton in one chapter.
He was his own man and he fell foul of the doyen of American cultural anthropology Franz Boas who categorized him as a militarist.
You gotta watch out for stuff like that because it seemed to follow him round.
I always found Lintons published work to have a great depth and insight.
hmmmm
anyway I know a young person who will receive this about November for their birthday and I hope it is just as inspirational for them as it was for me.
Electionsnz.
I hope that there is a referendum to decide whether the Wairarapa local bodies amalgamate and it is time to ditch all e voting in New Zealand and the management of public affairs by private companies.
It might be hip and cool and blah blah fucking blah but anybody with any nous will know that it is the reason for the fall off in voting numbers.
and anybody who watched the recent presidential elections in the U.S. will have noted the huge queues waiting to vote with no grumbling.
Not like kiwis who want instant gratification.
And besides an election that allows a Mayoral candidate to receive 666 votes is suspect.
do ya hear that?
Dobble Trubb.
It might be just what America needs.
Now the cards are really on the table and and the omens are good.
The only comparison to Trubb is Warren Harding.
When his term was over the whole institutional framework of the U.S.A. needed a new broom because of the corruption that he had allowed to insinuate itself into the public life and institutions.
Barack Obama is just the man to get the ball rolling.
go Boss.
you vote we decide
