greatest novelist of the twentieth century...

I cant be bothere with tolstoy or dostoeyevsky.
balzac and prost give me a pain but maupassant is short and to the point.
hemingway doesn't do it for me and faulkner maybe on a slow day.
Probably the daddy of them all is Lord Tweedsmuir aka John Buchan.
I have tried reading dickens and walter scott and victor hugo.
All long winded and prolix but somehow Buchan managed to synthesise all the p[revious styles and everyone else steibeck, louis lamour and elmore included have copied his style.
The one complete original is Philip  K. Dick.
His output was prodigious and varied.
It will probably never be equalled again.
Bugger!
