suicide in New Zealand...

Waiting  in the library for the bus when I happened to read the local two minute silence with a a big front page item on suicide.
One Nigel Fairley , general manager of this that and the other thing under the constellation of contracted out services to the Wairarapa District Health Board was opining on suicide in NZ.
I use the word opining because he did not adduce any evidence for his assertions that suicide is a community matter and we must start talking about it.
There are two major approaches in the literature to suicide.
Emile Durkheim thought suicide was a statistical result of anomie or rootlessness in contemporary societys.
Freuds view as explicated in Karl Menningers book "Mankind Against Himself ' takes the individuals psychology as the determining factor.
So taking Fairleys contention  that suicide is a community matter it must be asked what it is about our society that results in rootlessness and anomie.
Could it be the market driven right wing ideology of the market knows everything and parents have been completely swamped by drives to acquire and compete and to hell with the children. Will the market look after them?
The Freudian view is that suicides are homicidal murderers whose conditioning prevents them from killing the persons that are supposed to be their protectors and installs them as persecutors and the previous mentioned conditioning means that the only recourse is to kill themselves.
so in the end talking about it is not going to do a damn thing or make one blind bit of difference.
Kiwis love talking about things and especially things they know nothing about.
Just because I flew in a jet does not make me a pilot.
Just because I have a brain does not make me a brain surgeon.
so far we have a whole lot of blabber mouths with no theory  talking about it and trying to downplay their own contributions to the mental health of their offspring.
Yakkety yakkety yakkety yak!
and it is no good the National Gubmint talking about  it and setting targets and other bushwah.
It is their policies that have been the  contributing factor of most suicides New Zealand and it is going to take a long time to repair the damage that is if anyone has the nous to do the right thing in the first place and parents taking responsibility for using children for their own purposes till they cant take it any more.
