and you had a do wacka do...

Borrowed this from the library yesterday.
Read about 6 chapters last night.
When you listen to the boosters in the New Zealand Media you would think that invention or innovation just spring out of nowhere at random.
i.e. if you are bright enough then powwwwwwwwww.
at any moment you will have a blinding flash and then in 6 months you will be resident in the south of France or New York enjoying your spoils off the proceeds from some widget.
well it never happens just like that.
necessity is not the mother of invention.
the desire to lower unit cost is.
and while every now and then something does burst on the scene the industrial process is usually incremental unless there is something like bell labs in residence with a focus on pure research and look how long it took after the invention of the transistor before it became ubiquitous.
when you listen to the media in New Zealand you get the idea that to talk about something is to do it.
it is like listening to a juvenile omnipotent fantasy.
nobody in the NZ media has ever done anything much but they can sure talk up a storm.
