manufacturing assent in the land of the round brown flat white...

Land of the long brown flat white.

Yep.
It is no wonder that post modernism took off in New Zealand.
Only your own truths count and its not what you know but who you know so ignorance is at a premium everywhere you look.
Its designed that way.
See in New Zealand if you order a flat white you get this brown convex shaped thing that is nothing like a flat white but thats what “WE” call it so shut up and drink it.
And just like the snippet in Sunday Magazine people accept slimy lettuce because they are told to.
In New Zealand the country is ruled by the manufacturing of assent by bullying, character assassination and creeps who are gutless little shits but know how to suck up.
If you read Rod Orams column in the SST today he tells of a meeting with two members of the round table in what was purely an exercise in standover bullying.
Thats the way its done here.
The same as everywhere else I suppose when you read about the scientists who discovered or more precisely publicised the ozone hole and pointed to the culprit the industry spinmeisters called them agents of the KGB.
???????
In NZ it is much easier to stigmatise and alienate and marginalise people because of the scale and willingness of the little people to do their masters bidding.
They implicitly believe they are not real people until they can acquire a chainsaw and a leaf blower and an angle grinder and a horizontal planer.
There is no accounting for stupidity and ignorance in any level of society but New Zealand is run by accountants with no flair, panache, pizzaz, elan or anything else except the ability to count money with the rest of poulation grovelling along behind doing their best not to annoy the dispensers of munificence in case they get cut off.
Furthermore they get off watching people butting heads against imcomprehensible incoherent rules that only they know how to interpret.
There is no respect or trust in this community.
Everything is externally referenced.
i.e. if I have a big car then ipso facto I have a big dick.
Everything is up for grabs and everything is subject to being discarded at a moments notice if it doesnt suit somebodys back pocket or the little people have put the “WORD” out.
In effect we are a nation of money grubbers who need stuff to bolster our self esteem which is fabricated by the possession of goods.
Oram is right.
There is something slimy and nasty and vicious in New Zealand society and what is worse is kayonedoubleyewones have grown to accept it.

Linda Hallinan.
Love your column girl.
Down to earth and to the point.
Dont get involved in politics.
“THEY” would crucify you in five seconds.
Anyway I love your quotes from the great philosophers about curiosity.
High falutin stuff but I prefer to believe Sigmund Freud who opined that curiosity in children is a direct result of not being exposed to overt sexuality in their childhood.
i.e. being witness to or hearing  their parents fucking.
He also theorised that any child who had the overwhelming love and support of their Mother would never lack for confidence.
It aint rocket science.

See all this crap peddled about about kids not doing well and all the rest is a result of the psycho social miasma of crud that is the new zealand way of life and no amount of charter schools is going to fix that.
allcharter schools are going to do is shovel money into peoples pockets who were the cause of the problem in the first place.

memo to joohn key.
who are you to turn up here in New Zealand after being head hunted like a carpet bagger because your party could not find anyone in its own ranks acceptable to the New Zealand public and then you start spouting nonsense about patriotism and screaming like lunatics at a rugby match.
where is the lack of patriotism I would like to know and where in your experience of shaving other peoples money does that  let you decide how other people should feel and act.
just because a few ab's kiss your arse in the dresssing room does not make you the arbiter of how the rest of us view ourselves and our country.
this flag, our flag, was here before you got here and will still be the same when you go.
the sooner you pack up your tent and wire your money back to where it came from the better for all of us.

The Netherlands has had the same flag since the 9th century but you are being presumptuous and totally out of order thinking you can turn up here and bend everything just to suit your childish wish ful thinking.

Not for Sale
