sands of the kalahari...

watching bear grills do the !Kung and San bushmen.

He opined that they had been there for over 20,000 years.

The fact is they are not autochthonous and dna analysis shows connections to some far flung gene pools.

In other words they are occupying a niche.

they survive on virtual forrests of maroula trees where they compete with elephants and other abundant wildlife for the fruit.

When anthropologists first arrived on the scene it was found that the !kung did not have a proper language as such and instead communicated in clicks and animal imitations.

It was the same case in New Zealand when the first white people arrived. They found a people that had no proper language as we understand it but were quick to learn the usefullness of the naming and descriptive power that had suddenly opened up for them which gave birth to native pdigin then total adoption of english as the lingua franca.

Now we have a force operating in society trying to re-introduce a pidgin language and proclaiming it as cultural right.

In no way is it a cultural right in the correct technical sense. It does on now way contribute to the mastery of the naural world. it is  a claim being made on society as a whole for the establishment of social mores and specific behaviour from a group with specific interests in defining identity and their willingness to confront.

Sure it might make the media more "colourful" but in the long run it is moneyand resources that would be better spent elsewhere
