why I dont go to church on sundays...

I was brought up in the church.

I am a pascalian. i.e. if you dont believe and God is real then you get the booby prize. If you do believe and God is not real then you have lived a good life. If you believe and God is real then there is a good chance you might go to heaven.

Without the judaic ethic  of the law and the christian ethic of love then we are nothing but intelligent animals with voracious appetites in my opinion but back to the original propostion.

Somewhere along the way all the old music was chucked out and a whole new slew of gaga nonsense posing as pious but in truth shallow and paltry has become the norm.

I love to sing and praise the lord but I amnot going to stand there going lalala over and over to mindless nonsense.

I go to a Thursday morning eucharist read straight from the anglican prayer book and it is beautiful in its simplicity and eternal  message.

this man wrote one of the most beautiful hyms ever written but never heard these days more is the pity and he wrote it for his flock with nary a thought for royalties from hillsong.

Now thank we all our God,
with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,
in Whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms
has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

Der ewig reiche Gott
woll uns in unserm Leben
ein immer fröhlich Herz
und edlen Frieden geben,
und uns in seiner Gnad
erhalten fort und fort,
und uns aus aller Not
erlösen hier und dort.

O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us;
And keep us in His grace,
and guide us when perplexed;
And free us from all ills,
in this world and the next!

Lob, Ehr und Preis sei Gott,
dem Vater und dem Sohne,
und Gott, dem Heilgen Geist
im höchsten Himmelsthrone,
ihm, dem dreieinen Gott,
wie es im Anfang war
und ist und bleiben wird
so jetzt und immerdar.

All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given;
The Son and Him Who reigns
with Them in highest Heaven;
The one eternal God,
whom earth and Heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.
