reading jaques barzun from 'dawn to decadence'. interesting getting the French view instead of english or american glosses on the history of the world.
takes a bit of getting used to but invaluable for the big picture in the long run.
take the blinkers off so to speak.
monday morning and all quiet.
sport is all at the moment. cricket, las vegas sevens, soccer all going flat out in the summer that never was.
front after front oozing out of the southern ocean and little sunshine.
anyway the cricket is banal. interrogatvies al the way. these guys are just pin heads really. they dont seem to have ever read a book or know anything.
and the tension is fake. making out something has happened when it hasn't and then correcting themselves. blahhhhhhh.
and I'm sick of tracer bullets and scud missiles.
is that all you guys ahve got?
they talk about every one else all the time but dont seem to be able to look at themselves.
that is self centredness.
interrogatives are fallacious, invalid, dishonest and disrespectful but cricket commentators seem to think that doesn't apply to them!!!!!!!
how can our culture be so crummy?
radio hopeless this morning. kathryan arguing that drowning in a sea of fat is a matter of choice.
weasel words.
at least the doctor from auckland put her straight.
choice is a function of the environment. it is a relationship to something else and nota stand alone variable.
it is a good mafia word. either pay up or die. your choice. wise guy shit.
and another nelogism  from mathew hooton on 9-noon this am. the civil society. that is just BRT speak for shut up while I use the law to steal from you. we either live in society or we dont. society means that there is a modicum of civility or otherwise it is anarchy.
adding civil to the word is just a distinction that is code for upper class theft.
anyway it is obvious that our society such as it is is venal, banal , corrupt in the most petty way, and empty of any meaning except the commercial imperative.
just listen to the music. vacant and lacking any sort of joie de vivre. just more product.
ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhh.
and josie pagani. parliament is important. just because it might not fit your neat little sheila mind does not mean that it is the forum where people get to see their representatives.
who care what silly polls say about grown ups acting like kids.
that just noo noo head stuff and not any good reason to try and make the whole world conform to a standard invented ata godd mum coffee klatch for improving the world.
Great to hear the guy from the Christain Institute on the radio on sunday morning telling the stupid little interviewr that people like christianity.
they can rely on it.
without it we are nothin. just jumped up wimpy little pimples gorging ourselves till we are sick on materialistic fantasies.
